And so begins the saga of our Mobile Command Post . . . . . . . . We in Northwest Georgia have long needed a Mobile Command Post to use in responding to emergency activations, public service events, drills, Field Day, and other events. The idea has smoldered in the back of my mind for years and now presses forward with renewed urgency in the wake of 9/11 and other world events. Long discussions have led to the decision to pursue a trailer versus a motorized vehicle (insurance cost, maintenance, etc). The first task is to plan our Mobile Command Post from stem to stern, determine size, layout, necessary equipment, and necessities vs. luxuries. This is necessary in order to be able to draft a budget and set fundraising goals. Please e-mail any ideas regarding equipment lists, layout drawings, size, style, materials, masts, antennas, etc to Doug Woodruff. Also, please begin to identify your prospects for fundraising purposes so we can begin to plan our fundraising efforts! I have already begun with mailing to over 100 people and am pleased to announce that the response has been very positive. Pictured below is my favorite layout. These particular pictures are of the Campmaster built by Roadmaster. These units incorporate a small 8ft-12ft living quarter area in the front (see below) along with a large cargo area in the back separated by a door (Note: the drawing below shows only the living quarters). Just think, we could customize the cargo area for the operating positions and still have the living quarters for cooking, eating, changing clothes, sleeping, and other necessary amenities (like a toilet!). Other manufacturers make similar products which we will evaluate as time progresses.
